Video

Here are some video's and pictures of the induction week, we started by learning how to use the camera and then set out to get some Images and Video. We first went into the performing arts department and all had a turn in getting our Photo's and Video's. After we had captured all of our material we started collecting it all and putting it onto the computer.

This Video shows a dance rehearsal that took place in the induction week.

This is a stop motion animation I created, I started by modeling an object that eventually turned into a man, after I had finished that I started to create the animation by taking pictures and then moving the object. It took a very long time but the end product is impressive to see.

Karl Lagerfeld’s extreme diet: no food, unless it’s from Nobu

karl-lagerfelds-extreme-diet-no-food-unless-its-from-nobu
Fashion people adore eccentricity. And if one can combine extreme dieting and / or a bonkers food fad with said eccentricity, so much the better. So, at a luncheon during Fashion Week here hosted by the FIT’s Couture Council honouring Karl Lagerfeld’s esteemed career, a source was only too happy to gossip about the design… Read more

The Cumbrian helmet that shows what sophisticated artists the Romans were

the-cumbrian-helmet-that-shows-what-sophisticated-artists-the-romans-were
The Roman helmet found by a metal detector in a Cumbrian field, and up for sale at Christie’s, is a thing of great beauty. The modelling of the face is sophisticated and lifelike, notably in the plump, many-planed lips, and the rounded, shifting surface of the cheeks and the cheekbones. The snail-curls of the hair and the… Read more

Climategate whitewashers squirm like maggots on Bishop Hill’s pin

Just back from the House of Lords for the launch of the Global Warming Policy Foundation’s report on the failings of the three Climategate inquiries. The official inquiries, as we know, found nothing untoward in any of the Climategate emails – nor in the behaviour of the scientists responsible for them. But the GWPF’s report, by… Read more

Timothy Vernor, Autodesk, the US court of appeal, second-hand books and freedom

timothy-vernor-autodesk-the-us-court-of-appeal-second-hand-books-and-freedom
Buy a book or a CD legitimately and you can legally sell it on. In the US it’s known as the first sale doctrine, enshrined in law in the seventies having been recognised by the supreme court in 1908. Buy software with the right words in the licence, however, and you don’t… Read more

Team Sky feel the heat in the British drizzle

It hasn’t really stopped raining since the cavalcade rolled out of Rochdale 4 days ago. The sun’s peered weakly down on the peloton from time to time, but by and large that’s been it. And underneath the scudding grey autumn clouds the bumps and lumps of Britain have been gently, but persistently testing the patience… Read more

Spending cuts: the Coalition has a problem with women

The Coalition has a problem with women. According to this morning’s Times/Populus poll, only 17 per cent of them agree with this statement: “Britain has a severe debt crisis and this Government thinks the country’s budget deficit must be dealt with by the time of the next general election”. That’s compared to 26 per cent… Read more

Lady Gaga’s next headline-grabbing outfit

lady-gagas-next-headline-grabbing-outfit
Apparently some people think it’s shocking that Lady Gaga has started wearing bits of dead animal – and I suppose it is shocking, if you’ve never heard of leather. At any rate, the outfit had a profound point to make about what it’s like to be a 21st-century celebrity: we are all MEAT, MEAT, do… Read more

George Osborne must protect himself against the waverers

george-osborne-must-protect-himself-against-the-waverers
Today’s Times/Populus poll showing voter unease about the Coalition’s plans for cutting the deficit is both depressing and unsurprising. Depressing because it confirms that the task of winning the argument for urgent and difficult action is a struggle, and unsurprising because voters have heard a fairly unrelenting message of gloom: can we blame them for… Read more

Can Fidelity really protect your investments against falls in share prices?

can-fidelity-really-protect-your-investments-against-falls-in-share-prices
Cautious investors who want stock market exposure with some protection against the risk that share prices can fall are being offered a new fund by Fidelity, but independent financial advisers (IFAs) expressed doubts about the Fidelity Equity Growth Defender. While it sets out to protect 80 per cent of the highest value the fund reaches without… Read more

The European Arrest Warrant and the modern Anti-Dreyfusards

the-european-arrest-warrant-and-the-modern-anti-dreyfusards
It could happen to absolutely anyone: that’s the scary thing. When you read about Britons unfairly detained in foreign prisons, you rarely imagine yourself in their place; there’s usually a bit of you thinking, “I wouldn’t have joined a protest march in a tinpot dictatorship” or “I wouldn’t have gone for a drink with a… Read more

Role reversal as Conservatives on the defensive over helicopters

role-reversal-as-conservatives-on-the-defensive-over-helicopters
I should have done this last night, but time was against me. Yesterday’s defence questions included a moment of pure comedy as Peter Luff, the defence procurement minister, faced questions about the number of helicopters the Government is making available to commanders in Afghanistan. Here’s the full extract from Hansard: Bob Ainsworth: Can the Minister tell… Read more

How do you get poorer children into good schools?

how-do-you-get-poorer-children-into-good-schools
A lot of nonsense is being talked about the Coalition plan to offer a “pupil premium” which would attach a larger educational allowance to a child from a poor home, and thus offer an incentive to good schools to accept poorer children. This is a reasonable enough proposal which is designed to redress the present inequity of “selection… Read more

This one’s happy, this one’s sad: banality and subtlety in music

this-ones-happy-this-ones-sad-banality-and-subtlety-in-music
I read the other day about a new study done by Glasgow Caledonian University about the therapeutic qualities of music.  We’ve discussed this here on this blog before, and the whole area of music therapy is something fascinating and valuable, but I was alarmed by one quote from the researchers: “Some online music stores… Read more

America will need another Ronald Reagan to reverse President Obama’s pitiful legacy of US decline

america-will-need-another-ronald-reagan-to-reverse-president-obama%e2%80%99s-pitiful-legacy-of-us-decline
The Obama administration is bracing itself for more bad news this week with the release of stunning census figures which are projected to show the biggest increase in poverty in the United States since the 1960s. As Associated Press reports: The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record… Read more

Wind farms: the wind of change has started to blow

wind-farms-the-wind-of-change-has-started-to-blow
I agree with quite a lot of the green agenda – I’ve never had a car, I don’t do  much leisure flying, I recycle many of my jokes – but I confess I’ve never got the point of wind farms. As I wrote in June, we seem to be subjecting large parts of our countryside… Read more

The egomania behind burning American flags and copies of the Koran

Terry Jones: flaming egomaniac (Photo: AP)
Now the Koran-burning brigade has really got going. After Terry Jones, the Florida pastor, backed down, two other pastors, in Tennessee, got out the lighter fuel over the weekend. How cross they’ll be that they didn’t get much coverage. Because that’s what they’re really all after – publicity (and the exhibitionist streak… Read more

Lib Dems: Safety valve? Or Fifth column?

lib-dems-safety-valve-or-fifth-column
Bob Russell has just stitched up his own side by tabling an urgent Commons question to the Chancellor about the state of the spending review (fascinating that the Speaker allowed it; there have been quite a few, is this a trend?). It was an embarrassing moment for George Osborne, who had to account for himself… Read more
